Plant features

The hedgehog is a perennial plant. He has capitate inflorescences that connect a huge number of small nondescript flowers. They have no petals. They are replaced by three scales, which are colored greenish. The heads are small, fluffy, yellow in color. Larger ones are placed under the staminate heads. They are colored green.

After flowering, fruits are formed on the plant. They are filled with air, they resemble small floats that do not sink in water, but stay on its surface. With a gust of wind, they move across the reservoir. They will move until they cling to the muddy bank. After a while, the fruits will begin to sprout.

The foliage of the headhead is not distinguished by strong strength, if, for example, they are compared with the leaves of the reed. But it often grows near other plants that provide protection from strong winds, so the foliage is not damaged. If you cut off the cast, you can see the air chambers.

The creeping root system has 2 types of roots. It clings to the bottom with one rhizome, while the other is placed in water, with which it receives all the necessary nutrients. The seed balls that form on the plant look like a hedgehog that is curled up into a ball. Therefore, the headgear got such a name. This plant is divided into 20 species, each of which has some differences.

How to plant and care for a plant

The hedgehog grows near the water. Often they decorate summer cottages if there are artificial reservoirs or a lake on the territory. In other places, such a plant will not develop. It loves flowing or stagnant bodies of water. Sometimes, to plant a headrest, containers are used that are filled with fertile soil.

Seed material should be deepened 10 cm below the surface of the water. The plant does not need any special care. After a while, it is recommended to thin out the headcap so that it does not fill the entire territory. To propagate the plant, they divide the bushes or collect the seeds.

Using a headband

The hedgehog has an original appearance, it stands out for its decorative leaves and inflorescences with thorns. These plants grow well in a short period, so beautiful thickets are obtained. But the headhead will not be able to grow anywhere, so it is used to decorate reservoirs.

Do not forget that some species are dangerous for ponds, where the bottom is covered with a film. This is due to the fact that the rhizome of the headhead can pierce the film. It is recommended to grow floating and small species in reservoirs that are small in size. They have a beautiful view and do not harm the area. So, the headhead is a plant that grows near water bodies. It is often used to decorate lakes and ponds.
