Growing ornamental cabbage for garden decoration

Varieties of ornamental cabbage have been bred by breeders for a long time, but only in recent years has the design of gardens, parks, squares, flower beds in personal plots gained wide scope.

Ornamental cabbage seedlings can be grown at home, and later transplanted into open ground. But you can grow it immediately in the open field, but with the obligatory use of a covering material or a greenhouse.

If you decide to sow seedlings cabbage seeds at home, then it is worth considering that cabbage does not tolerate high temperatures and heat. It is better to sow the seeds each in a separate container, so that then when picking and transplanting to a permanent place, you do not damage the delicate roots. It is necessary to sow seeds already at the end of February - beginning of March. It is necessary to transplant home seedlings to a flower bed in the garden in mid-May.

If you want to cultivate ornamental cabbage directly in the open field, then you need to sow seeds in a greenhouse around mid-April. The greenhouse should be kept at a temperature of 18-20 degrees Celsius. Seedlings grown under these conditions are stronger and more seasoned. In the month of May, it is transplanted to a permanent place in the garden.

Transplanting seedlings grown in both ways is carried out carefully, preserving the earthen lump to the maximum. The seedlings should be deepened into the soil until the first true leaves, observing the distance between the plants of 30 cm.

For ornamental cabbage, a sunny place is preferable, but it grows well in partial shade conditions. It develops quickly and well with abundant watering and fertilization.
